Regarding the shutter count, a friend recently bought a Refurbished Nikon and checked the counter using a site like:
http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
http://shuttercounter.com/
You simple upload one photo from the camera and it will show you the shutter cound.
What I have noticed is that this counter is also listed in the EXIF data in Flickr!
