Hey guys,
Great show on snow, listened to it on my commute today. Quick question on the self portrait/head shot Allan did of himself. In order to get in focus did you set a focus trap? I tried to do a self head shot a few weeks ago and found focus to be an issue on the run-in type shot.
Great show! Really enjoy the format, especially the stories, believe it or not. Yes, I’m that guy that eggs Allan on, eh!

I’ve tried the focus trap/run in and it’s tough with a narrow DOF. I usually plant a light stand in exactly the position I am going to stand and quickly switch places with it while the timer goes. Works fairly often.
In this case I had my wife snap the photo once everything was setup. She is my stand in while I run a quick lighting test and then we switch places. I make sure she leaves enough headroom so I can crop later.
This one was shot with the 85mm lens.
